Positive Connections

Following on from the award winning, successful SEA Change Project, funding has been awarded by The Big Lottery Young Start Fund to provide a new project to enable young people aged 8-25 years with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus in Lanarkshire and surrounding areas to access social opportunities through attendance at age specific monthly groups at the Association’s purpose built centre in Cumbernauld .

Enabling children and young people to gain more confidence and skills.

The groups will provide an opportunity for members to gain peer support from each other, share information and experiences and try out activities aimed at building confidence, improving social skills, physical and emotional well being as well as generally allowing children to have fun.

Our young people will gain confidence by participating in the planning of meetings and discussions but also be able to contribute ideas at the meetings. During this time they are also making new friends and getting peer support.

Enabling children and young people to have better physical, mental and emotional health.

Young people will increase their levels of physical activity through participating in wheelchair dancing, basketball, archery and team activities.

Group participation will increase emotional and mental well being by reducing social isolation and providing opportunities to improve to improve social interaction and communication skills.

If you or your child would like to get involved with this project or just find out more please contact Jo Milligan on 01236 794500 or Jo directly.
