Telemedicine
The new centre in Cumbernauld is equipped with a telemedicine suite which enables direct links to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children (RHSC) in Glasgow and any other facilities which have compatible video conferencing equipment.
We have also recently developed a virtual remote urology clinic with Aberdeen Sick Children's Hospital, for children who access specialist urology services in Aberdeen but live in the Central belt of Scotland. This facility enables families to visit the family friendly centre and participate in a "virtual clinic" with their hospital consultant(s) and other health professionals based at a different site.
The facility has also been used by families in Stornoway and Dumfries to "attend" their hospital clinic by telemedicine link from their local centre rather than travelling to RHSC or Southern General Hospital respectively.

Working together with the Scottish Centre for Telehealth and the Telemedicine Paediatric team, the SSBA are piloting Telemedicine use in care at home.
Having used Telemedicine successfully at our centre for a number of years now, we were chosen as ideal partners for this exciting pilot. Engaging with our service users the technology was rigorously tested and we are now setting home links to a few children and young people - and their families. It is hoped that a successful outcome will demonstrate that Telemedicine is a useful tool to bridge some of the geographical barriers to a needs led service provision.
