2 New Projects Provide Important Support for Young People and Carers

2 New Projects just launching with the Scottish Spina Bifida Association are providing important support for young people and carers.

Positive Connections (funded by The Big Lottery Young Start Fund) will enable young people aged 8-25 years with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus in Lanarkshire and surrounding areas to access social opportunities through monthly groups and activities at the Association’s purpose built centre in Cumbernauld.

This project aims to:

• Enable children and young people to gain more confidence and skills.
• Enable children and young people to have better physical, mental and emotional health.

Breakaway (funded by Shared Care Scotland) provides flexible respite for carers of young people aged 12-16 years who are affected by Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus. The Breakaway Project aims to provide an opportunity for carers to have a break from their caring role. At the same time, the young person you care for will also have the opportunity to receive support to participate in a range of activities within the home or local community.

Carers get a break from their caring role, have the opportunity to develop hobbies and interests or just have the opportunity to socialise and feel less isolated.
