Maralyn's Story

Pancake Day is over for another year, so now is the time to start getting fit! Maralyn is a member of the Fitness 100 Club. If you want to get involved with Fitness 100 but are struggling for ideas - here is Maralyns's story to give you an insight into what's involved.

Hi Maralyn, why did you decide to join the Fitness 100 Club and what are you planning on doing to raise money?

"I have set myself the goal of running a 5k by the end of the year and I pledge to raise a minimum of £100 for the Scottish Spina Bifida Association (SSBA). I have wanted to get fit for years but something always seemed to get in the way. This year I’m determined to succeed!

I have never attempted to run before and I wasn’t sure where to start, but the SSBA’s Fitness 100 Leader has provided me with a basic fitness and nutrition plan and has also helped me to find the races which are taking place where I live. So I’m all set to go!”

Maralyn will be 1 of 100 people, across Scotland, joining the Fitness 100 Club and raising £100. She’ll be getting fit, confident in the knowledge that she has the support, not only of the SSBA, but of all other club members who’ll be interacting via e-newsletters and social media.

Together the Fitness 100 Club aims to raise £10,000 which could fund 5 months of Healthy Lifestyle Services to those living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus in Scotland.

Services include: Continence Clinics; Wheelchair Training; Health Checks with Senior Specialist Nurses and Fitness Groups. These are essential services allowing those affected to gain independence, feel less socially isolated and feel empowered, every day.
