SSBA Organisation and Structure

» Registered Charity

The Association is a recognised Scottish Charity (No SC 013328) and in November 2000 the Association also became a Company Limited by Guarantee (Registered in Scotland No. 213050). It is now governed by its "Memorandum and Articles" of Association - National Association's Management Committee.

» Accountability

The Association is accountable to members of the Company. An Annual General Meeting is held at which time the Board of Directors are elected for a fixed period. The meeting also receives the Annual Report and Audited Accounts. Any change to the Memorandum and Articles of the company requires the assent of the members of the Company at an Annual or Extraordinary General Meeting.

» Board of Directors

The Company is managed by a Board of Directors (15) appointed by members of the Company. The Board strives to be representative of all key stakeholders and currently includes users from throughout Scotland working alongside relevant professionals in medicine, business and commerce.
The Board of Directors is responsible for setting overall strategy and policy whilst the operational responsibility is vested in the Chief Executive who also acts as Company Secretary.

» User Representation

The majority of Directors serving on the Board are individuals with spina bifida and or hydrocephalus or parents or carers of individuals with spina bifida and/ or hydrocephalus or allied disorders

» National and International Collaboration

The Association works closely with its sister organisation in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (ASBAH) The Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus and is a member of the International Federation for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (IFHSB)

» Membership Affiliations

The Scottish Spina Bifida Association is a member of Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations , Children in Scotland and the Neurological Alliance for Scotland.

» Staffing and Management Structure

The Association has appointed a Chief Executive, who along with the Senior Management Team has direct responsibility for all operational aspects of the Association including, Direct Services, Fundraising and Administration.
